Trevathan Farmhouse
Trevathan is a working farm and has been farmed by the Symons family since 1850. In recent times the farm buildings had become unsuitable for modern farming methods so they have been restored and converted into stone holiday cottages. We started in 1984 and now have 11 cottages at Trevathan. We still farm and have about 200 sheep, a number of cattle and calves, and grow a variety of crops on the 300 acres. We also have a Pick-your-own business which started with just strawberries but now we grow a wide range of soft fruit and vegetables which we sell in the farm shop and use in our tearoom. It is a real family business. Jo looks after the cottages. James returned home in the summer of 2000 so Mark and James now run the farm between them. James is concentrating on the farming side and has set up a beef unit enabling us to sell our own home produced meat in the farm shop while Mark is concentrating on expanding the PYO and developing the tourism aspect of the farm. Mum & Dad (Henry and Shirley) have retired although they can usually be found up in the Farm Shop. We have a tennis court, volleyball court, play area with swings and slide and the animals are an endless source of entertainment.
